As announced at the Weasel Pyle on Aug. 14, season six officially will commence with an undercard game at the Weasel Royale on Sept. 11.

The Royale and the Undercard take place at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove, beginning at 11 a.m. While players in the Undercard will enjoy Dan's chili and his hand-craft beer, they'll have to fend for themselves, as Dan will be busy running the Royale game. In addition, the Undercard players won't have access to Dan's networked conference rooms.

Standbys needed in case Sam and possibly John get drafted for the Royale.

The field for the 2010 Weasel Royale club championship came down to the last board at the last event of the year.

Heading into the Aug. 14 Weasel Pyle, Sam Bassett had a tenous hold on the seventh spot in the Royale field. No fewer than eight Pyle participants had realistic shots at taking the bid from him.

Starting next month, the air around here will be clearer but also less colorful. That's because our good friend Greg Duenow is moving to Ann Arbor. At the Weasel Pyle on Aug. 14, the Sneak honored Greg by naming a new club service award after him and presenting the first one to him.

Duenow was recognized for his Herculean contributions to the club during its pre-Sneak formative years (2005 to 2008). Specifically, he was cited for the following contributions.

Candidates Dan Burgess and Peter Yeargin captured the two open seats in the Sneak election conducted at yesterday's fifth annual Weasel Pyle in Wayne, beating out Pete McNamara and Sam Bassett. Including absentee ballots, 54 percent of the paid membership (19 of 35) voted in the election.

All the candidates ran clean campaigns -- though Burgess did raise a few eyebrows with his "Vote for Dan" buttons and the keg of beer he brought to the Pyle -- and even the two who fell short received multiple votes.

The new Sneak will attempt to meet before Weasel Moot to form their government for the year and set the agenda.

Take note: due to road closures and other issues, you may need to take a different route this year.

I recommend that no matter where you are coming from, come to our home by way of a certain waypoint along your journey, namely the intersection of IL 59 (Sutton Rd) and Army Trail Rd. IL- 59 runs north and south and can be reached along I-90 in the north (head south on 59) and I-88 in the south (head north on 59). Alternately, Army Trail can be picked up off I-355 just south of its merge into I-290 (in which case head west on Army Trail).

The reasons I suggest that all routes pass through this way point is that Mapquest will likely send many of you through the closed IL-25/Dunham Rd interchange (massive road construction which has an EIGHT MILE detour) or at least past the Equestrian Center north of me along Dunham Rd which is hosting a massive equestrian event that will ensure choked roads and police traffic management.

From the prescribed waypoint, head west on Army Trail until you reach the traffic light at Dunham Rd, head north about 1 mile, but in any case right before the rail road tracks turn left into the “North Country” development on its road, Brewster Creek Circle. Pass the landscape island and turn left onto subtly-marked Ashley Lane. Take this to the very end--warning there are four speed bumps.

Park on rd, preferably western or southern edge, ON THE PAVEMENT. A common impulse is to pull off onto the grass a bit to be considerate to those passing by, but this instead greatly disturbs my otherwise very congenial neighbor.
