Weasels at WAC

Tournament Game Reports

WACCon 2012, held last weekend at the Washington Athletic Club in downtown Seattle, was a great event. It featured 20 boards over the four rounds, with 46 players participating, including five Weasels and three of our ex-pats.

Nate Cockerill and I topped our boards Friday night in round 1 and were in first and second place, respectively, heading into round 2. My board top held up for Best Italy. Cockerill earned his in an endgame against ex-pat Christian MacDonald and Doug Moore. Those two had emerged from the West after pounding our Prime Weasel, Dan Burgess. Burgess' England was knocked out in 1903. His demise was sped up by a costly misorder. It was his only game of the tournament.

Third time the charm for Yeargin

Tournament Game Reports

Peter Yeargin left Chicago a few months ago for his new life in D.C., but one thing he didn't want to leave behind was a Weasel Royale championship, the only major Chicago title to elude his clutches. In his third attempt yesterday at Dan Burgess' home in Downers Grove, he finally earned the title of Bull Weasel, to go along with his Weasel Moot championship in 2010 and his Weasel of the Year honors in 2009 and 2011.

The other players conceded the Bull Weasel title in Fall 1909. The final center counts were:

Alpha Weasel accummulates more honors

Tournament Game Reports

Congrats to our Alpha Weasel, Chris Martin, who won the DipCon at Carnage and also secured his second Grand Prix championship. The longtime member of the Potomac Tea & Knife Society is just the second two-time Grand Prix champion.

The event featured 13 boards over the three rounds, with 36 players participating. The top seven were:

Out with the old, in with the older

Tournament Game Reports

Just prior to the start of the final round at Weasel Moot V, we moved one of the tables onto the meeting room's dance floor to create more space. As fate would have it, Chris Martin, who has a PhD in dance, landed on that board.

The former world champ sparkled in his natural habitat, twisting and turning and spinning his way to a resounding 17-center board top. The 75.26 points were enough to vault him past our own John Gramila, who posted the only solo of the tournament, and become the Moot's first two-time winner. Congratulations to our Alpha Weasel alpha, who is now our Alpha Weasel epsilon, as well.
