Last night at Guthrie's Tavern, the Windy City Weasels set a new club record for games played in a season, as seven of us gathered to match wits over a Diplomacy board for the 36th time. The record will climb as we race down the stretch to the Weasel Pyle at Brown Manor on Aug. 13.
This Guthrie's game was a particularly rollicking affair, with shifting alliances and double-dealing in both theaters. Remarked a frustrated Peter Lokken at one point, "I hate games like this. There's no strategy. It's just a bunch of lying."
As always, some lied better than others, and Nate Cockerill, best of all. When the game ended by time limit after the Fall 1907, he had nine centers and the board top. The final center counts were:
The supply center chart is here. We usually don't get a lot of postgame chatter after our bar games, but here's hoping some of the players will share their thoughts.
In the meantime, we still need one more for Saturday's game at Peter Lokken's home. John Gramila will play if absolutely necessary, but let's try to find someone else.

I went outside to come to an agreement over Scandinavia with Russia. We came to an agreement and stuck to it nearly until the end of the game. Probably more due to the fact that our potential allies became our enemies in the early game. (To be cont.)
I didn't mean, by the way, to imply that Nate always lies the best. Only that he was the best liar on this night.
