Two for Tuesday

WCW Club Season 2012 Games

On a Tuesday night at the Red Lion in Lincoln Square, 15 players showed up to get in another game of Diplomacy before the season ends next month. Aaron Bernhardt graciously agreed to sit out to make 14.

Game No. 186
Beefy Nate Cockerill posted his fifth board top of the season on the shark board. The game ended by time limit after the Fall 1907 turn in the following center counts:

Austria (Matt Sundstrom): 2; 1.460 points.
England (Aash Anand): 3; 3.285 points.
France (Don Glass): 8; 23.358 points.
Germany (Nick Rohn): 2; 1.460 points.
Italy (Mike Whitty): 0; 0.000 points.
Russia (Nate Cockerill): 12; 52.555 points.
Turkey (Ulysses Peterson): 7; 17.883 points.

Cockerill remained in fourth place, but he closed to within 0.16 points of third. Don Glass, meanwhile, moved to within 1.3 points of the seventh spot. After the Weasel Pyle on July 14, the top seven dues-paying Weasels of Season Seven will be invited to participate in the Weasel Royale club championship game, to be held in the fall.

Game No. 187
Meanwhile, Belgian Herve de Theux dominated the newbie board. That game ended by time limit after the Fall 1906 turn in the following center counts:

Austria (Peter Lokken): 4; 6.015 points.
England (Ben DiPaola): 0; 0.000 points.
France (Laura Kliman): 4; 6.015 points.
Germany (Herve de Theux): 12; 54.135 points.
Italy (Dave Koob): 5; 9.398 points.
Russia (Mike Morrison): 1; 0.376 points.
Turkey (Jakub Mirski): 8; 24.060 points.

Newcomer Kliman, a friend of Lokken's, was playing her first game. She brought her friend, Koob, who had played before but not with the Weasels. Mirski, a Polish national, and de Theux, two more of Lokken's recruits, were playing in their second and third games with us, respectively. Each now has a board top.

The supply center charts are here. Now, let's hear from the players.

With a few weeks remaining in the season, we've now played 38 games, with 80 players participating. The number of players is a record for us. Our high for games played is 41, set last year. We're virtually assured of breaking that mark this year despite the shorter season. (We're wrapping up in July this year to clear August for WDC.)
